A well defined facial skeletal structure gives balance to the face and is an integral part of one's profile. When we look in the mirror, we are more likely to take note of the shape of the nose, ears, and the signs of aging such as jowling and fine lines and wrinkles than the chin and cheeks which are the underlying framework of the face. Facial plastic surgeons such as Doctor Jacono always analyze the face as a whole. Often a weak chin and cheek bone structure can detract from the results of a nose reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty) or facelift surgery. Augmentation of the chin and cheeks is sometimes necessary to achieve facial balance and harmony.
The photographs that follow are before and after photographs of some of Doctor Jacono's Blepharoplasty patients. These are actual results and have not been altered for presentation here.
Chin and Pre-Jowl Augmentation Patient (No Liposuction):
Before & After
Chin augmentation surgery is performed through a small incision in the natural crease line just underneath the chin, and cheek augmentation is performed through a small incision in the mouth. Doctor Jacono gently stretches the tissue, creating a space to where an implant can be placed over the deficient bone of the skeleton. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, and the scar is usually imperceptable.
Another possibility for improvement with a poorly defined facial structure is Liposuction or a Buccal Fat Removal. Submental liposuction (liposuction under the neck) removes excess fatty tissue to help further define the chin and the neckline. The cheeks can be better defined by performing a Buccal Fat Extraction. Buccal Fat Extraction removes the fat underneath the cheek skeletal structure through a hidden incision inside the mouth.
Prior to surgery all patients receive a complete physical examination and are started on vitamin supplementation and homeopathic therapies to enhance healing after surgery. Research has shown that surgical results are improved when these regimens are part of your surgical treatment.
