What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is commonly referred to as a nose job. It is used to make the nose more aesthetically pleasing by correcting asymmetries or defects in the shape of the nose. The nose can be made narrower, shortened, straightened, or otherwise adjusted in size or flare.
What should I expect during the consultation?
Rhinoplasty is not a “one-size-fits-all” procedure. Dr. Jacono will talk to you about the issues that you have with your nose and the outcome you are hoping to achieve. He takes into account your skin type, age, ethnicity, and the degree of function and deformity of your existing nasal structures. Dr. Jacono then uses digital morphing technology to help you find a result that is uniquely you.
How is Dr. Jacono different from other cosmetic surgeons?
Some cosmetic surgeons use the same approach for every patient. This creates “cookie cutter” results where each patient ends up with the same nose. Dr. Jacono customizes each surgery to enhance the symmetry and aesthetic balance of the patient, which creates a natural looking result.
What does the rhinoplasty procedure entail?
Rhinoplasty is performed using either an open or closed technique. An open rhinoplasty involves making a small incision between and across the nostrils. The skin is then pulled back to expose the bone and cartilage. With the closed technique, the incisions are made completely inside the nose. Dr. Jacono chooses the approach best suited to the goals of your surgery.
How long does it take to perform rhinoplasty?
A closed rhinoplasty takes approximately one and one-half to two hours. Revisions and open rhinoplasties may take more time.
Will I have scarring?
With a closed rhinoplasty, all of the incisions are hidden inside the nose, so there is no visible scarring. If you have an open rhinoplasty, there will be a very tiny scar between the nostrils.
How long is the recovery time?
Since not everyone heals the same, rhinoplasty recovery begins for most patients by taking one to two weeks off of work or school following rhinoplasty surgery. The plastic splint is removed approximately one week following surgery, but you may still have mild bruising under your eyes for another week. In addition, you should avoid strenuous exercise or physical activity for two to three weeks since this can increase the amount of bruising and swelling. It is also a good idea to avoid activities that could cause impact to your nose for approximately two months. Dr. Jacono uses a less invasive approach as well as homeopathic remedies and vitamin supplementation to minimize bruising and promote faster healing.
Will there be a lot of post-surgical pain?
Most patients only experience mild discomfort, which is easily controlled with pain medication. Dr. Jacono uses a patented Quick Recovery Rhinoplasty™, which reduces the amount of trauma to the nose and results in less discomfort. He also does not use nasal packing, which further minimizes discomfort.
What are the risks of rhinoplasty?
Like with any surgical procedure, there are some risks associated with rhinoplasty. The risks are rare and typically involve infection, bleeding, or excessive scarring.
How much does rhinoplasty cost?
Rhinoplasty is an investment in your self-image. The exact cost depends on the details of the procedure. During your consultation, we will give you a written quote with the exact cost of your procedure.
