Liposuction is a minimally invasive body contouring procedure that helps to improve and sculpt the contour of your body. Today, liposuction is one of most popular body contouring procedures available a great way to remove stubborn fat pockets that are resistant to both diet and exercise.
Even if you eat well and exercise regularly, there may still be areas of stubborn fat that are resistant to your efforts. Liposuction can remove these targeted areas of stubborn fat deposits while sculpting out other areas as well. The best results are dependent on factors such as overall health and the skin tone of the patient. Liposuction is often used in combination treatments and helps to enhance the effects of other cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentations, tummy tucks, body lifts, mommy makeovers, and abdominoplasty.
Liposuction at the New York Center for Facial, Plastic, and Laser Surgery was designed to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat that are extremely hard to get rid of through steady exercise and a healthy diet. While it removes this stubborn fat, it also helps to contour your body and restore a more youthful appearance.
Areas of the body liposuction can be performed on include:
- Love Handles
- Upper Arms
Liposculpting creates dramatic results by removing fat tissue, but is not intended to be used for weight loss.
Liposuction is performed using a long metal tube called a cannula or cannula wand which is inserted into the treatment area through small incisions to loosen and suck out the unwanted fat cell deposits. Dr. Jacono’s board certified plastic surgery associates move the cannula back and forth in a controlled manner directly underneath the skin which in return loosen the stubborn fat. We then will use a vacuum attachment on the cannula to suction out the unwanted fat and tissue. This process will enable our surgeons to sculpt and contour the treatment area while removing the fat at the same time.
We will perform the liposuction procedure either using local or general anesthesia based upon the extent of the procedure and what was agreed upon during your consultation visit.
Most patients need about a week to recovery from liposuction and usually involves the use of a compression garment over the treatment area to help control swelling and to offer support for the new body contouring. In some cases, small tubes may be inserted to help drain excess blood and fluids from the treated areas. These tubes will be removed during your first follow up visit.
Some patients may experience temporary numbness or soreness where the fat was removed from. We will prescribe appropriate medication to help patients feel more comfortable during their recovery.
Typically, patients can return back to work and other light daily activities within a weeks’ time. It is advised that patients refrain from any heavy lifting or strenuous activities for four to six weeks to ensure the best possible results.
Men and women who are dealing with excess and stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to exercise or a healthy diet, may be a good candidate for a liposuction procedure. Ideal candidates should be relatively healthy and have a positive outlook on their surgery. Patients who are within 30% of their ideal body weight and who have firm skin with good muscle tone will benefit the most from liposculpture. The best way to determine if liposuction is the right choice for you is to schedule a consultation with one of Dr. Jacono’s surgical associates to discuss this procedure. We will listen to your goals and help to develop a custom-tailored approach which will deliver the best possible results for each and every patient.
