What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that targets facial skin. It involves pricking the skin with tiny, sterilized needles. These small wounds cause the body to produce more elastin and collagen, which heal the skin and make it look smoother. Microneedling is sometimes referred to as collagen induction therapy.

There are many benefits of microneedling. It can help with problems like:

  • Acne and other blemishes
  • Loss of hair
  • Patches and dark spots on the skin
  • Unsightly scars
  • Sun damage
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Large, open pores

Microneedling does not use heat as laser treatments do. Because of this, it doesn’t affect the color or pigmentation of the skin. The procedure usually takes between 10 and 20 minutes to perform depending on the size of the treatment area. Depending on the patient’s skin quality, it may take between 4 and 6 treatments to see a considerable difference.

What Is Microneedling with Growth Factors?

Dr. Jacono is one of a small group of top facial plastic surgeons who offer a combination of two innovations: microneedling and growth factor-enriched plasma harvest. This aesthetic procedure begins with growth factor extraction. These are obtained from a blood sample from the patient. Dr. Jacono then uses a microneedling device on the skin while simultaneously applying growth factors.

Dr. Jacono usually uses Dermapen in his microneedling treatments. Dermapen is a micropen that manually resurfaces the skin. It replaces non-laser techniques such as subcision, punch grafting, and the CROSS technique. It also replaces older rolling microneedling devices.

The Dermapen uses a unique, spring-loaded stamping technology. The skin is rapidly pierced at a ninety-degree angle at a physician-controlled depth. Its tiny needles create micro-injuries, which in turn cause the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. This process is not very painful or physically traumatic.

Microneedling has many benefits. It can smooth skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and diminish more dramatic signs of aging. The Dermapen also positively affects hypo- and hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and stretch marks.

Applying growth factors during and after microneedling enhances and restores face and neck skin. This is because growth factors are full of platelets, which help tissue heal and sprout new cells. These growth factors primarily promote collagen production and the regeneration of damaged tissue. They also smooth the skin, soften wrinkles, and improve the tone and texture of the skin.

How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

Generally speaking, the results of microneedling treatments last between 3 and 6 months. The longevity of results depends on how long the new collagen lasts and the severity of the patient’s skin concerns. Those who require a large amount of collagen to correct their concerns, for example, will likely have shorter-lasting results. Patients who have more mild concerns, on the other hand, tend to have longer-lasting outcomes.

The quality and durability of new collagen also depend on a number of factors. These include age, level of stress, and intensity of skincare. Younger people build new collagen more easily than older people. They can also hold onto collagen for longer periods of time. A busier, more anxious lifestyle can use up collagen more quickly; tobacco and alcohol use may cause unforeseen complications

Dr. Jacono recommends that patients who undergo microneedling refrain from drinking and smoking before and after treatment.

What Are the Benefits of Growth Factor Microneedling?

In many ways, growth factor microneedling is a superior treatment to ordinary microneedling. On average, patients report less pain and shorter recovery periods. They also report more noticeable results.

Usually, Dr. Jacono recommends a series of microneedling treatments, all with a recovery time of about a day. This ensures that results last longer. He also offers package pricing when patients require multiple sessions. This reduces overall cost and makes microneedling more accessible.

The Dermapen can be used on all skin types, including on patients with darker skin who are not laser therapy candidates. These include candidates of Asian, African, and Hispanic heritage.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling with Growth Factors?

Anyone who wants smoother, shinier, and healthier skin is a strong candidate for microneedling with growth factors. The treatment is suited to people of all ages, genders, skin types, and skin tones. Prospective patients should be in good health, and refrain from smoking or drinking before and after the procedure.
