What is Kybella®?
Kybella® is a cutting-edge injectable treatment designed to dissolve and eliminate submental fat.
How does Kybella® work?
Kybella® contains Deoxycholic Acid, a molecule that naturally occurs in the body, which aids in the breakdown of fat. Kybella® will dissolve the walls of the targeted fat cells, which are then eliminated by the body. Healthy tissue is not affected.
Who is a good candidate for Kybella®?
The idea candidate for Kybella® will understand the treatment process and hold reasonable expectations for their final results.
How is Kybella® administered?
Kybella® is applied through a series of small injections, applied directly into the submental fat below the chin.
Are Kybella® injections painful?
Mild pressure and discomfort may be felt underneath the chin during Kybella® injections. Although not considered painful, Dr. Jacono can apply a topical or local anesthetic prior to treatment for added patient comfort.
How long does a Kybella® session last?
At New York Center for Facial Plastic and Laser Surgery, a Kybella® treatment session will take less than half an hour to perform.
How many Kybella® sessions are required?
For optimal results, between two and six sessions Kybella® sessions will be required, each performed approximately four weeks apart.
How long will the results from Kybella® last?
Once fat cells have been destroyed, they will not return, making the benefits of Kybella® permanent.
What are the side effects of Kybella®?
The FDA has approved Kybella® as a safe method for treating submental fullness. The most common side effects are minor swelling, bruising, pain, redness, and numbness at the treatment site. More serious complications such as difficulty swallowing and nerve damage are rare.
Since Kybella® works well under the chin, can it be used in other areas of the body?
At the moment, Kybella® is only approved to treat submental fullness. The injectable works best on small areas with isolated fatty tissue like the double chin.
