Revision Eye Lift: Fixing Botched Eyelid Surgery

Information About Revision Eye Lift Surgery in New York, NY with Dr. Andrew Jacono

What Is a Revision Eye Lift?

Sometimes, eye lift surgery does not go as planned. Botched upper eyelid surgery may leave the lids appearing wrinkled, swollen, and even asymmetrical. In these cases, surgeons may perform a revision blepharoplasty procedure (eyelid correction surgery).  Blepharoplasty revision surgery requires knowledge of specialized techniques, but it can restore natural beauty to the eyes.

Dr. Jacono has extensive experience in reconstructive eyelid treatments and specializes in revision eyelid surgery–he’s a blepharoplasty revision specialist. The eyelid’s tissues are very delicate and can be difficult to treat, so revision blepharoplasty must be performed with extreme precision.

There are two types of revision blepharoplasty. The first technique fixes under-correction, which is when extra eyelid skin and fat are left behind. The second technique is performed when too much skin and fat are removed, making the eyes look sunken. This procedure aims to restore volume to the eyes.

Dr. Jacono is a master at facial revision surgery and is considered one of the best revision eye lift surgeons. His outcomes are consistently outstanding, even in cases of botched double eyelid surgery.

What Causes Eyelid Ptosis?

Ptosis is a condition that causes the eyelids to droop over the eye. This is usually an aesthetic problem, but sometimes, the sagging eyelid obstructs vision.

Ptosis has a number of causes. Some people are born with the condition. Others experience ptosis after suffering trauma to the nerves and muscles that control the eyelids. The eyelids may also naturally droop with age, as gravity progressively weakens the skin and muscles around the eyes.

Poorly executed eyelid surgery can also cause ptosis. In these instances, surgeons accidentally damage the levator muscle, which controls eyelid movement. This results in sagging lids and other complications.

Can Eyelid Ptosis (Droopy Eyelid) Be Reversed?

Luckily, persistent ptosis can be reversed with surgery–ptosis revision surgery. This procedure is called ptosis repair. Dr. Jacono tightens the levator muscle, which raises the eyelid to a more desirable position. This surgery offers both cosmetic and functional solutions that improve patients’ quality of life.

Ptosis can sometimes be treated with an endoscopic brow lift. If the forehead and brow droop severely, they can make the eyelids look heavy. The endoscopic brow lift lifts tissue, and releases pressure from the eyelids, causing them to open.

What Is Ectropion and How Is it Caused?

Ectropion is a condition in which the eyelid turns outward, making the eyes appear rounder and less almond-shaped. It also exposes the inner eyelid. This can cause a number of cosmetic and functional concerns, like dryness and irritation.

Ectropion has a few causes. With age, the muscles beneath the eyes weaken, and the eyelids droop. Certain conditions, like Bell’s palsy, can lead to ectropion.

Botched lower blepharoplasty may also cause ectropion. In fact, ectropion is one of the most common complications of lower eyelid surgery.

Dr. Jacono performs ectropion repair with a variety of techniques. For example, lateral canthal surgery can tighten the lower eyelid’s tendons. Endoscopic midface surgery can also support the lower eyelids by lifting the cheeks.

How Much Does Blepharoplasty Revision Cost?

Eyelid revision surgery, or blepharoplasty revision, can sometimes cost less than the original eyelid surgery. The actual cost will be determined based on many factors including the surgical skills, location, and revision needed.
