Facelifts for Women in their 40’s

Information about facelift surgery with Dr. Andrew Jacono for women who are in their forties.

Best Facelift in Forties Results
This stunning 40-year-old patient from Tennessee is pictured nearly two years after her facial plastic surgery and the results are simply amazing! She looks at least 15 years younger, but more importantly, like a more beautiful and feminine version of herself. Prior to the surgery, she had concerns about her elongated and droopy face, and despite trying fillers and lasers, she still felt dissatisfied with the results. Her face appeared overfilled and broad. To address these issues, Dr. Jacono performed facial rejuvenation surgery that aimed to create an aesthetic balance in her middle and lower face, which had been affected by aging and gravity. Using his minimal access (short incision) deep plane facelift technique, he lifted her cheeks to create a heart-shaped face with more definition along the jawline.

Why Women in their Forties are getting Facelift Procedures?

Can you get a facelift at 40? The answer is that, for some people, 40 is the best age for a facelift. Facelifts in the 40s are becoming more and more popular, and the techniques are becoming more refined.

With many patients, Dr. Jacono recommends a mini facelift at 40 years old. It’s a minimally invasive surgery that can take years off your appearance, as the pictures below demonstrate. Look through these facelifts before-and-after 40-years-old pictures to see if you’re a good candidate for a 40-year-old facelift.

Are you in your forties and considering getting a facelift? If so, you are not alone. According to new research from Dr. Andrew Jacono published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the average age for facelifts in New York and around the world is declining rapidly (more on this study below).

Many women are deciding to reset their facial appearance before they hit 50. While not everyone is a candidate for a facelift in their forties, there are indications:

  • It is your genetic tendency to form jowls, dropped cheeks, and a loose neck at an early age.
  • You look 5 to 10 years older than your chronological age.
  • Non-invasive treatments like fillers and facial tightening devices no longer give you the rejuvenation they used to years ago.
  • Your work and life schedule do not allow the time to maintain your appearance with multiple visits per year for non-invasive treatments.
  • You want to set the clock back by more than 10 years.

You simply want a long-term solution to your facial aging.

Lower Average Age for Facelifts

This gorgeous 47-year-old patient underwent facial plastic surgery performed by Dr. Andrew Jacono, and the impressive results are evident in her 3-month post-op before-and-after selfie. Prior to the surgery, she exhibited signs of accelerated aging and a genetic predisposition to drooping in the upper middle and lower thirds of her face. Dr. Jacono addressed these issues through a combination of procedures, including a deep plane facelift, upper and lower eyelift, and temporal lateral lift to correct premature drooping. He also performed a lip lift to enhance the aesthetic balance of her face and used fractional CO2 laser resurfacing to smooth out wrinkles. The first picture was taken in the pre-op room before her surgery, while the after picture was taken in her home in England. Overall, her case serves as an excellent example of the transformative power of multiple procedures for achieving a beautiful, youthful-looking face.

Facelifts have traditionally been preferred by older women for their dramatic results. Women under the age of 50, on the other hand, have generally preferred non-invasive or non-surgical facelift procedures such as Botox, injectable fillers, and facial tightening devices like Ultherapy, ThermiTight, and FaceTight.

This appears to be changing. In a study entitled “Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Procedures in Patients Under 50 Prior to Undergoing Facelift: Habits, Costs, and Results” published in the peer-reviewed Aesthetic Surgery Journal. In this study, one of New York’s best facelift surgeons, Dr. Jacono notes that the age of women seeking surgical cosmetic procedures has been steadily declining. This study examined 157 of Dr. Jacono’s clients who chose to have a facelift while still in their forties.

Facelift Study

This study revealed that over 50% of the women who chose to have a mini-facelift in their forties had previously had injectable dermal filler treatments or laser facial skin tightening prior to opting for a mini-facelift to reduce the appearance of aging. They noted that they looked 4 years younger after these non-invasive treatments but almost 10 years younger after their facelift surgery.

There are a few key benefits to choosing non-invasive cosmetic procedures over surgical procedures. Non-surgical procedures tend to cost less for each individual treatment and have shorter recovery times. For this reason, they are often chosen by women in their thirties and forties who simply need a “tune-up.” However, there are also reasons to choose more dramatic procedures, regardless of your age.

There are many types of facelifts to get at this age, from the mini lift all the way to the traditional facelift. Dr. Jacono can also perform an eyelid lift, and even remove excess skin from the face and neck.

Best Facelift for 40-Year-Old

Facelift procedures performed on forty-year-old patients are different than those in their fifties and sixties. There is less skin excess and the SMAS and deeper cheek tissues have not fallen as much. A full facelift is not required. Dr. Jacono employs a mini-facelift approach that utilizes an incision 1/3 the length of a traditional facelift incision that is hidden behind the ears and tragus, so you can wear your hair up in a ponytail, this is why it is often referred to as a ponytail facelift.

Through these small access incisions, he utilizes fiberoptic endoscopes to lift the SMAS muscle that creates early jowls and dropped cheek muscles and fat pads that make the face go from being heart-shaped to bottom-heavy.

The result is a defined jawline, removal of early jowls and smile lines, and a firmer neck. Because it is less invasive, the recovery is usually 1 week. Doctor Jacono has performed hundreds of 40-year-old mini-facelift surgeries, and the average age for a mini-facelift in his practice is 45 years old. Dr. Jacono sees his patients very happy with their decision to have a facelift at forty before and after.

Benefits of a Facelift in Your 40s

Facelifts are more expensive than non-invasive surgeries and have a longer period of recovery. However, the benefits are undeniable. Although these procedures can be expensive, they may actually be a more economical option for people seeking dramatic results.

Dr. Andrew Jacono notes that these patients who chose to have a facelift at forty had already spent an average of $7,000 each on less invasive procedures. Doctor Jacono has treated many women who over 3 to five years have spent twice the cost of the facelift. Still need to continue spending more money to maintain their non-invasive rejuvenation. While there is more cost for a facelift, the results last a decade or more. You will spend less money over the long term.

There are other benefits of having a facelift in your forties. Facelifts performed when you are younger look more natural. Our facial tissues are thin with advanced aging and the face can appear more taught. Additionally, facelifts performed at a younger age last longer.

Benefits of a Facelift in Your Forties

The facial tissues are stronger and more supportive in our youth; therefore, the facelift holds up better. The beams are stronger if you will. With advanced aging, our facial tissues become atrophied, thinner, and less supportive. A facelift in the forties will last twice as long as one performed on a patient in her sixties.

Facelifts are becoming more popular among an increasingly young patient population. However, they are still an effective way for more mature women to take years off their appearance. In addition, non-invasive procedures remain a great option for people of all ages. As Dr. Jacono notes, “Since there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to facial rejuvenation and surgery may not be right for everyone, I recommend that all facial plastic surgeons incorporate nonsurgical techniques into their practice to best serve the individual needs of the modern patient.

Additionally, fat grafting was utilized to address deep under-eye hollows, concavities in the face and temples, and lost cheek volume. A lateral temporal lift was performed to elevate the outer third of the brow and create a more open, youthful eye appearance.

Finally, an important aspect of the procedure was a lip lift, which shortened the lip and improved overall aesthetic balance. The patient’s results speak for themselves, and this case is an excellent demonstration of the powerful impact of a multi-faceted approach to facial rejuvenation.
