Best Short Scar Facelift Surgeon in New York
A short scar facelift is a surgical procedure that Dr. Jacono performs on patients who are looking to rejuvenate primarily the lower face, and jowls. This procedure can also be used to create smoothing of loose skin around the neck. It is also often referred to as an S-lift or ponytail facelift. Many women like to wear their hair back in a ponytail and want the ability to put their hair back without anyone seeing scars during an athletic activity like running or playing tennis.
Dr. Jacono performs the short-scar facelift procedure by repositioning all portions of the lower and central face that are showing signs of aging. The main difference between this type of facial rejuvenation and a full facelift surgery is the length of the incision. The Short Scar Facelift has half the incision normally seen in front of the ear and does not distort the sideburns and hairline like more traditional facelifts. It also does not require most of the incisions behind the ears so those are eliminated. The short scar facelift before and after is natural but is best suited for women in their forties and fifties. In the sixties and seventies, there are greater amounts of skin that require removal, and the longer incision is required.
Since there are fewer and smaller incisions, recovery time from a short-scar facelift tends to be shorter as well.
How is a Short Scar Facelift Performed?
Dr. Jacono will begin the procedure by placing small incisions just above the ears located in the patient’s hairline and extending down the natural crease directly in front of the ear. Dr. Jacono uses his expertise and years of experience to place the incisions in areas that allow for less visible scarring if any at all.
As he performs the procedure, Dr. Jacono will separate the skin from the underlying fat and muscles. The fat will be trimmed and suctioned from the chin and neck areas which will form a natural and wrinkle-free jawline. Dr. Jacono will also tighten the underlying muscle tissues called the SMAS and remove the excess skin. This allows for the skin of the face to be smoother and patients will look 5 to 10 years younger.
What Should I Expect from a Short-Scar Facelift?
No Visible Scar after Facelift with
New York facial plastic surgeon Dr Andrew Jacono
The short-scar facelift is a great option for patients who are in their 40’s and 50’s and are beginning to show the signs of aging. The procedure addresses the lower portion of the face which include the nasolabial folds, the jowls, and the jawline.
- Nasolabial folds are those deep visible creases located between the upper lip and cheeks. These will be smoothed out and less visible post recovery.
- Jowls are formed by the loose skin that forms between the cheek and chin area.
- Jawline is restored by returning definition and contour.
Short scar facelifts are usually performed under local or twilight (sedative) anesthesia but without general anesthesia which can have more risk. It may be performed in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation processes such as eyelid lift, microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, and fat grafting. The surgery typically lasts between 1 to 3 hours and the recovery time will vary but most patients can return to work and normal daily activities within 2 weeks.
