Facelift patient discusses her experience after her Mini Facelift procedure with New York facial plastic surgeon Dr Andrew Jacono
Info About Mini Facelift Procedure
Doctor Jacono has pioneered a type of Mini Face Lift surgery that minimizes downtime. The procedure involves local anesthesia or twilight sedation with no general anesthesia. He performs Mini facelifts to address drooping of the soft tissues and loosening of the skin in the face and the neck. This gravitational descent results in jowling and loss of the definition of the jawline. Marionette lines at the corner of the mouth are visible. Under the chin, a turkey neck and vertical bands in the neck develop. This is why many patients complain that they “hate their neck, it reminds me of my mother’s.”
A mini facelift is an ideal surgery for many patients who are experiencing “filler fatigue” and “laser fatigue”. Often in the forty’s injectable fillers, Botox, lasers, and facial tightening devices can keep you looking youthful and rejuvenated. As aging continues the benefit of these treatments lessens. You need more and more filler and lasers escalating the cost. In these cases, a mini-facelift becomes the best option for a more cost-effective and longer-lasting rejuvenation.
A Mini Facelift will address:
- Marionette Lines
- Dropped Cheeks
- Loose Neck/Vertical Bands
In addition to mini facelifts, Doctor Jacono performs many different types of face lifts. He customizes each procedure to meet his patient’s needs. With this approach, his results look natural and beautiful. Patients do not look pulled, stretched or artificial. The main types of face lifts are Mini Face Lift, Deep Plane Facelift, Vertical facelift, and SMAS Facelift. Doctor Jacono has lectured at leading plastic surgery conferences all over the world on facial rejuvenation. He has published his cutting-edge procedures in the top national and international plastic surgery journals. (Click here to see Dr Jacono’s publications).
What is a Mini Facelift?
Mini-face lifts minimize the incision and the recovery time. They accomplish many of the same goals as a traditional full facelift. This procedure is not for much older patients that have more severe drooping neck and jowl skin. For those individuals, a full facelift may be necessary. Most patients are candidates for the mini facelift. During the consultation, Dr. Jacono determines which facelift surgery that is right for you.
Other names for a mini facelift include:
- MACS lift
- Short Incision Facelift / Short Scar Facelift
- Lifestyle Lift™
Facelift Before and After Dr. Jacono performed his signature M.A.D.E. Minimal Access Extended Deep Plane Facelift on this patient and these are the before and after pictures she sent to him from her home using her phone. While she looks dramatically younger, you can still see some of the acne scarring on her face in the after photo. Doctor Jacono has pioneered this technique, has published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and Clinics in Plastic Surgery on his developments in this facelift, and has lectured all over the world about this procedure.
Facelift Before and After To complete this full facial rejuvenation, Dr. Jacono performed a deep plane facelift combined with a lip lift. The facelift procedure lifted her midface and nasolabial folds, while at the same time created a sleek, feminine jawline and removed her jowls. The upper lip lift completed the transformation that has this patient looking 15 years younger. The patient took a selfie while driving to the office the day of her surgery and again took another selfie 3 weeks after her facelift surgery. Her results look amazing and she is completely overjoyed.
These names relate to the size and shape of the incision. Dr. Jacono hides the incision behind the natural curves of the ear. This curve called the tragus keeps the scar from being visible. Dr. Jacono then tightens the muscle layer without dissecting it. He trims the excess skin and he closes the incisions meticulously with fine plastic surgery sutures. This minimizes the visibility of any incisions. Many professionals find this procedure ideal for their schedules. The recovery time is a few days versus a few weeks.
Doctor Jacono has created a hybrid mini facelift called the M.A.D.E. (Minimal Access Deep Plane Extended) Face Lift. In this procedure, he uses the same short incision combined with a deep plane facelift. The deep plane facelift is the most effective in restoring the midface and nasolabial folds. Nasolabial folds are the creases from the nose to the mouth. Dr. Jacono lifts the fat pads in the cheeks. He then repositions them to remove facial hollows. Results are natural and restore the heart shape of youth with fuller cheekbones. Doctor Jacono is one of a small percentage of doctors that performs Deep Plane Face Lift surgery. In this procedure, patients get the superior results of a deep plane facelift and the minimal scarring of a mini facelift.
What Other Types of Facelifts are There?
Facelift Before and After This patient in her fifties wanted to restore her lost youth. Dr. Jacono performed his signature full face rejuvenation featuring his deep plane facelift technique combined with a lateral temporal lift, a lower eyelid lift, a necklift with platysmaplasty, and a lip lift. Her after photo shows her looking fabulous and, in her thirties, again. The deep plane facelift lifted the dropped cheeks to recreate the heart shape of youth. With age, the lips fall, and the upper lip becomes long making the face look much older. This is why Dr. Jacono completed the overall transformation with a lip lift. This cannot be corrected by a facelift. You can see how full her lips look and where the mole above her lip has moved to recreate her youthful appearance.
Doctor Jacono also performs Multiplanar Full Face-lifting Surgery often referred to as a SMAS facelift. Versions of this facelift including the extended SMAS and high lateral SMAS facelift. This procedure does not simply tighten the muscle layers with sutures like in many mini-facelifts. He lifts and repositions the muscle layer of the cheek and jowl called the SMAS. At the same time, he lifts the platysma muscle in the neck. Dr. Jacono recommends this approach when excessive drooping in the lower third of the face is present. It is also the right procedure for patients with poor genetics or advanced aging.
Doctor Jacono specializes and is one of less than a few percent of surgeons across the country that perform deep plane facelifts. The “deep plane” is a term used to describe the anatomic plane that exists between the SMAS-platysma complex (which is muscle and fascia) and the deeper layer of muscles responsible for facial expression. The deep plane facelift focuses on the release and movement of muscle and fat layers instead of skin pull and removal. The extended deep plane facelift that Doctor Jacono has developed incorporates the release of the ligaments tethering the deep plane layer to achieve tension-free movement so that no tightness can be created by the facelift procedure.
Doctor Jacono also performs corrective face lifting surgery. He calls this a revision facelift. Revisions correct problems from prior facelift surgeries performed by other surgeons.
The most common reasons for revision are:
- Continued Jowling.
- Neck Hanging After a Prior Facelift.
- Facial Aging Many Years After a Facelift.
Also, patients can have overly tight unnatural or overfilled faces (with fat or fillers) that can only be restored with revision facelift surgery.
What to Expect at the Consultation?
Doctor Jacono uses three-dimensional digital photography and computer imaging software to simulate how you will look after surgery. This helps him evaluate all aspects of your face from the skin surface to the bone. He examines the skin texture, elasticity, and structure of your face. Facial aging is a complex process. The thin skins, the facial fat atrophies and deflates, and the underlying facial bones retrude losing projection. In some patients, the underlying facial skeleton may contribute to their skin sagging. A weak chin and jaw bone allow the jowls to fall earlier and more. Having small or flat cheekbones accelerates the appearance of smiles lines and nasolabial folds. As a result, more complete facial rejuvenation may require laser skin resurfacing, performing augmentation with fat transfers (fat grafting), or a cheek or chin implant to improve facelift surgery results. Because of his comprehensive approach, the results are youthful and natural.
Prior to surgery all patients receive a complete physical exam. Dr. Jacono has created a homeopathic healing supplement system called the Jpak. This system incorporates both homeopathic therapies and micronutrient supplementation. His research shows that results improve when these are part of your treatment. He has found this reduces healing time by 35 – 40%.
Before and After Facelift Patient Photos
Facelift Before and After Patient 1: This 50-year-old woman had a minimal incision facelift “mini-facelift” where the incisions are hidden, and the cheeks, jowl, and neck lifted. By repositioning the muscle and not stretching the skin he can create a natural face lift result. She has a short haircut and none of the incisions are visible. Dr. Jacono likes to refer to this as a “ponytail” type facelift because you can wear your hair up in a ponytail.
