NeoGraft Hair Transplant: Procedure, Benefits, and Photos

Information About NeoGraft Hair Transplant Procedure with Dr. Andrew Jacono in New York, NY

What Is a NeoGraft Hair Transplant?

Neograft Hair Transplantation Double board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Jacono discusses Neograft hair transplant methods that he offers patients in his New York and Long Island surgical centers.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, 50 million men and 30 million women suffer from pattern baldness. Those who experience hair loss report lower self-esteem and crises of self-image. Compounding these feelings are job market competition, social media influence, and increasing cultural focus on appearance. For these reasons, both genders seek hair transplant procedures.

The most traditional hair transplant procedure is the strip method, or Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT). It is a surgical treatment that removes a section of skin from the hair-bearing scalp. This strip of tissue is then transplanted to an area where hair has been lost. While it is a very effective treatment, it can leave behind scars that are difficult to hide.

The NeoGraft hair transplant is a revolutionary technology that Dr. Jacono has used for over 13 years. It is a minimally invasive procedure that allows those suffering from pattern baldness to replace their hairline with natural follicles. Unlike other transplant procedures, NeoGraft does not require invasive surgery. It also does not leave visible scars of any kind.

The cost of a NeoGraft FUE hair transplant depends on the number of follicular units transplanted.

How Is Hair Transplantation Done with NeoGraft?

NeoGraft is a game-changing procedure that uses Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). NeoGraft removes individual hair follicles from the scalp in naturally occurring groups of 1-4 hairs. These units are placed in balding or thinning areas of the scalp, including the hairline, crown, and temples.

Usually, 500 to 2,500 hair grafts can be placed on the head in a single session. This largely depends on the degree of hair loss and takes between 3 and 6 hours to complete. NeoGraft uses pneumatic controls to precisely extract hair follicles. It is also the only complete harvesting system on the market and uses “No Touch” implantation technology so that delicate follicles are not destroyed. This allows hair to grow more reliably when placed.

NeoGraft requires no incisions, stitches, or staples, and allows Dr. Jacono to minimize scarring on the head. For this reason, recovery time is minimal, and results look complete and natural.

Below is a picture of Dr. Jacono performing the FUE method, as well as a diagram showing follicular growth units. The third image shows a small dish of individual follicular units.

Is a NeoGraft Different From an FUE?

While NeoGraft and traditional FUE are similar, they differ in a few ways. Older FUE hair transplant methods require the surgeon to remove follicles one by one before the transplant. This can be a painful, time-consuming process. NeoGraft, on the other hand, is a device that removes and transplants follicles in larger groups. This makes the process faster, safer, and more effective.

NeoGraft devices are extremely accurate, and significantly shorten the time that a surgeon would otherwise spend manually extracting follicles. This technology-assisted method also reduces the risks of error.

Can PRP Be Combined with a NeoGraft Procedure?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy is a treatment that stimulates hair growth. It is a three-step process and usually requires 3 treatment sessions 4-6 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are required every 6 months.

During PRP therapy, the patient’s blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge. A centrifuge is a device that spins rapidly to separate fluids. After a few minutes in the centrifuge, the blood will have dispersed into three layers:

  • Platelet-poor plasma
  • Platelet-rich plasma
  • Red blood cells

The platelet-rich plasma is placed in a syringe and injected into thinning or balding areas of the scalp. This stimulates the production of collagen and improves circulation.

PRP can be successfully combined with NeoGraft. PRP increases NeoGraft healing rates, improves follicle retention, and helps grafts grow quicker. It can also prevent weaker grafts from becoming unviable.
